Cherry blossom viewing at Nagasaki University

Perhaps no one would have the Nagasaki University on their must-visit list for cherry blossom viewing. But for me, the Nagasaki University is the most memorable place for cherry blossom viewing.

Japan has always been considered the land of cherry blossoms.

I went to Japan during September. Well, of course there wasn't any cherry blossoms in September. For me, cherry blossom was something distant, I might know what it is but it didn't bring any special feelings.

In the following days, I was in awe with the red leaves of autumn and didn't even know which were the cherry blossom trees, in a forest waiting for a change in season. Winter came, and I was busy marveling my first snowflakes. The trees then were just leafless, scraggy branches, and I couldn't even care less to find out which of them were the cherry blossom trees.

But before I knew it, spring came and filled my mind with the shade of cherry blossoms. And in my memory, this shade will always be the cherry blossoms from the Nagasaki University, Bunkyo Campus.

Right at the gate are two large cherry blossom trees. The branches cast their huge shadow on the roadside. From afar, the trees look like two gigantic cotton candies. With a gust of wind, the cherry petals rain down gently, leisurely.

The cherry blossom trees can be seen anywhere in the campus. There are small trees, and also very large ones. Beside the library, near the pond, at a wall's corner, or by a random building, the cherry blossoms boast their beauty everywhere.

In some areas, such as behind the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences building, next to the School of Engineering buildings, or between the Faculty of Fisheries buildings, there are gardens with small cherry blossom trees. There are some chairs under the trees for students to rest.

In larger gardens to the east of the campus, you can also find some small wooden desks.

My friends and I usually sit under the cherry blossom trees to have lunch or chat with each other. Chit-chatting under the shade of cherry blossoms is quite a poetic experience. But you should also be careful of the wildcats in the campus.

The cats here are fed and raised by students so they really like humans. If you have lunch here, there will always be a few cute cats come begging for food in just a few minutes. Who would be able to resist such adorable, bossy kitties.

And even when you are adamant on not giving them any food, some cheeky ones will even jump on the table, just lying there to stare at you. See if you can ignore them ^^

There are also many statues, gardens and ponds in the campus. You can go sight-seeing while viewing the cherry blossoms.

If you have no friends studying in Nagasaki University, you can ask the security at the main gate or east gate for a sight-seeing trip to the campus. The security guards are very friendly and kind.

There are always maps of the campus or signboards near the buildings, so don't worry about getting lost. Or you can simple wander around the campus, I'm sure you can find some amazingly gorgeous views of the cherry blossoms.
