Experiencing the light-up event at Tokyo Mega Illumi Racecourse - 大井競馬場
During the winter in Japan, the whole country is filled with illuminations to welcome Christmas and New Year Eve.
Illumination festivals can occur anywhere: residential areas (self-organized by households), in front of train stations, pedestrian streets, parks, squares, flower gardens... Or at the racecourse (Oikeibajou) which we went to yesterday.
Several illumination festivals in Japan are held on a grand scale. The festival is also considered a tradition in Japan. The glamorous illumination ratings on Walker Plus states that the place we went to yesterday ranked 6th in the Kanto region and 13th in the country.
We went to the light-up area only but not the whole other site. For pregnant women, this area is suitable for walking without being uncomfortable.

A quick review about this place, it was tidy and charming. The entrance was decorated with brightly lit Twinkle Road, followed by the dining area and then the main lighting attraction. First, you would spend time admiring a huge tree that lights up about 8 minutes/time and the aurora forest that lights up every 4 minutes.

The yard seemed small, but they incorporated it with the tunnel, so it was not small at all. Personally, I really like the Edogawa Sakura light tunnel and the Rose Garden,...
Besides, there are also: wisteria garden, rainbow stairs, light canal.

In terms of other amenities, there were 3 WCs with diaper changing tables and 1 more place to rest in a very cozy greenhouse midway. I did not try out the food, but it looked fine. Our neighbor who went to buy the children Spanish crackers and warm lemonade said that the children seemed to enjoy it.
There was also a horse model area, a horse swing, so the children loved it. There should be some interesting events here at different times of the day, so please check the schedule on the web before your visit ^^
Have a nice trip, everyone!
Note:
- The day I went, the wind was extreme and cold, so I advise you to dress warmly in a hat + gloves, especially for parents with babies.
- If you choose to eat out near the viewing area, be careful of the parking fee because the Tokyo parking fee is quite expensive.
