Explore the dreamlike beauty of the suspension bridge of love - Yume no Tsuribashi
With the extravagant scenery given by mother nature, Yume no Tsuribashi, one of the most beautiful suspension bridges in Japan, promises to attract exploring-enthusiasts.
Located in the center of Shizuoka, 4 hours by train from Tokyo, Yume no Tsuribashi is the attraction nestled in the town of Kawanehon. Lying beneath the bridge is the beautiful Oigawa river flowing south-east.
Last autumn, I was lucky enough to have the chance to conquer this dream-like majestic scenery. In the chilling mid-autumn, it would be wonderful to get lost in the pristineness of Yume no Tsuribashi.
I headed to Senzu Station from Kanaya Station with a fee of 1800¥. The train ride was slow as the rail was surrounded by the mountains. Through the window, the pristineness and majesty of nature with vast tea fields was drawn so vividly.
Arrived at Senzu Station, I had to spend another one-hour bus ride with the fee of 800¥ on the steep road to the town of Kawanehon. The only way to get to the valley and the Yume no Tsuribashi suspension bridge is on foot. With rows of fall-coloured leaves on both sides, it brought more enchantment to the trail.
Each sunbeam glided into your heart as if it awoke every sense up so as not to overlook this magnificent view I was about to witness.
After 30 minutes of walking and sightseeing, the suspension bridge of love had finally appeared. The bridge was like a stream of hair veiling over the cadet blue silk-like Ohma Dam river, its 90m length and 8m height seemed to challenge every visitor going across.
I strolled through the bridge with very light steps, beneath was the river so emerald that looked like the valley's giant gem embracing the bridge. It was the combination of nervousness when walking on the fragile bridge and bewilderedness, exclamation upon looking at the splendid scenery.
The locals said that if a girl stood in the middle of the bridge and pray for fulfilled love, her wish would come true. Words also got around about the success rate when praying on the bridge.
Standing in the middle of the bridge and praying sincerely, the fanciful fog floating around made me feel like I was lost in fairyland.
On the other side of the divide was the one-way road to go back. Another 2-km walk on the mountain road and you could go back to the starting point. If you come here, you should wear sneakers and keep your energy in order to walk the whole way.
Although the area surrounding the bridge did not have many stores, there were still some soba restaurants then I decided to have lunch there. There were also traditional hostels, onsen (hot spring) and foot bath cafes with prices ranging from 1000¥/person, depending on the service of choice.
Voted as Top 2 most beautiful suspension bridge in Japan by the readers of Asahi Shimbun, Yume no Tsuribashi deserved to be an inviting destination that you should visit and discover the extraordinary beauty of nature in Japan.
