High Tea: Musée du Chocolat Théobroma
Join us as we go on an exciting high tea at this elegant chocolate speciality shop!
I am a huge fan of chocolate. So when my friend invited me to Musée du Chocolat Théobroma (which translates to Théobroma Chocolate Museum from French), it was a BIG yes from me.
Knowing that we were going to consume a great deal, we walked from Shibuya even though the nearest station is actually Yoyogi Kouen on the Metro Chiyoda Line where it takes only about 4 minutes.
You can also take a 6 minutes walk from the Yoyogi Hachiman station on the Odakyu Line. If you, like us, would like to walk from Shibuya, it takes about 12 minutes to walk.
There were a variety of desserts (cakes included) and even non-chocolate desserts. There were also chocolates which you can buy to bring home and slowly savour or as gifts for loved ones.
The interior was really cute and really gave me an overseas feeling, making me feel as though I am on a trip.
They have a little cafe space on the side of the shop where there have meal options so if you are not a dessert person, don't worry, this shop got you covered. You can go for the Panini or Croissant Sandwich.
And if you are brave enough, you could even try the curry which has chocolate inside!
We each went for the Cake and Drink Set and added on another tart separately because we wanted to try so many things. My friend went for ice coffee. She said it's a good match to the sweet things we were going to eat. I went for the hot chocolate which was really interesting because there were four different options: bitter, milk, spice and herbs.
The spice one has cinnamon and nutmeg while the herbs one has lemongrass and mint. I have never heard or tried either so I decided to go for the spice one. It came in such a pretty little pot and it immediately gave me the feels of the rich ladies having high tea.
The hot chocolate was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. My image of the hot chocolate that is sold in cafes is usually insanely sweet. There is also this cheap taste because of the amount of white sugar in it. Well, I obviously haven't gotten the opportunity to drink real good ones until this.
This was really so good. Now I want to try the other flavours as well. The spice one was actually spicy. I think it would be an excellent drink to enjoy during winter because it will really warm you up from the inside.
Their most popular item, San Joaquin Dos. The sweetness of this chocolate cake was perfect. It sort of melts in your mouth yet there is enough texture to savour it and it actually doesn't stick to your teeth.
And best of all, the richness of the chocolate was fantastic. You have to try it when you come.
This Chocolate Roll was so cute, fluffy and had a kind of childlike sweetness to it. You can already taste the gentleness the moment you take the first bite. Another one I highly recommend. This was also really, really good.
What an amazing surprise this was! The blueberries and raspberries were actually sweet. I wonder if it's because it is the season now? I'm not sure but it is truly a rare chance that the berries on these kinds of tarts are actually sweet. The pastry at the bottom was fantastic. It was so different from the usual kind I know. The chewy combination was really good.
Overall, everything was not as sweet as we imagined it would be, but the whole meal was really good. I thought the double chocolate drink and cake would be a killer but that turned out to be a pretty good combination too.
This place is definitely worth a second trip. There are so many things I want to try. I'll update you guys again!
