Honored as 三大国宝城, or one of the Three National Treasures, Himeji Castle, with its timeless beauty, is one of the three most famous and oldest castles in Japan and was built in 1333. Let's join me in discovering the charm of this ancient castle!

About Himeji White Egret Castle

Located in the heart of Himeji city, 100 km east of Osaka city, Himeji castle is a treasure that represents ancient Japanese architecture. After more than 600 years of ups and downs, the castle still retains its majestic beauty.

Himeji is also known as the White Egret Castle or the White Heron Castle. Its winding appearance is covered with a layer of white plaster, reminiscent of the image of a white egret spreading its wings to protect the whole hill.

Visiting Himeji the White Egret Castle

I love to learn about Japan's historical and cultural imprints, so I could not miss the opportunity to visit Himeji Castle last spring.

Starting early in the morning from Osaka city, it took me over an hour by subway to Himeji station. From Himeji Station, I just needed to take another bus for about 5 minutes to reach the White Egret Castle. The total fare for the whole trip is only about 1300 yen.

I chose only to visit the castle, so I bought the 945-yen ticket. If you want to visit Akarui, the price would be about 1080 yen.

Himeji Castle is also visible from afar because it was built on the top of Himeyama hill, which is 45.6m above sea level.

The moment I arrived at the castle, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the magnificent and delicate beauty of the combination between the gray color of the tile and the pure white color of the plaster covering the wall. All create an ancient and majestic appearance of the architecture imprinted with the history and stands out against the blue sky.

Deep inside, there are many zigzag roads like a maze. If you come here, remember to pay attention to the signposts to avoid getting lost.

When I looked from the outside, the castle seems to have 5 floors, but in fact, it has 6 floors, including the basement. The inside of the castle is built entirely from wood, from the beams to the partitions. Only the pillars at the door are made of stone with sophisticated carvings.

Rooms were built along the corridor and were once used as a place for generals and soldiers. The deeper I go into the castle, the more clearly I felt the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the place that soothes my soul.

I had the opportunity to go to the top floor of the castle to admire the panoramic view of this place. It felt like there was a majestic and poetic picture right in front of my eyes. The whole castle is like a miniature oval oasis, surrounded by distant ranges of mountains.

If you have the opportunity to come here, you can choose to go during the cherry blossom season. The shimmering pink color of cherry blossoms blending with the gray and white tones of the castle will indeed create a great and unforgettable scene.

What are you waiting for? Let's plan a trip to the Himeji White Crane castle, right now! The scenery here will surely satisfy anyone who loves the beauty of nature and the culture of Japan!
