Kurobe Gorge – The gem in the forest of Toyama
Being surrounded by mountains and the sea, Toyama is a place favored by nature. Its geographical location and rugged terrain create magnificent and wonderful natural sceneries, one of which is the Kurobe Gorge, located in the city of the same name. Let's join me in discovering this famous Kurobe Gorge!
Kurobe Gorge is cut by the Kurobe River and surrounded by beautiful forests in the Japanese Northern Alps. The rugged mountainous terrain and the nearly vertical cliffs here create a deep valley with an altitude of 1500m - 2000m.
Kurobe Gorge is considered one of the three most impressive and deepest gorges in Japan
The itinerary for train enthusiasts and nature lovers
To witness the gorgeous scenery here, take the slow train of Kurobe Gorge Railway, which is unique in the land of the rising sun.
Initially, this track was built only to transport workers and materials deep into the gorge, where the hydroelectric plant construction sites were located.
Later, the rails were used for tourists coming to see the scenic spots. Gradually, it became the most beautiful railway line in Japan.

The train journey will start at Unazuki Station and end at Keyakidaira Station. It is a 20-kilometer winding road and would take about 80 minutes for you to cross more than 20 bridges and 40 tunnels.
You can buy a full ticket for the whole itinerary for 1,990 yen/ adult or a single ticket for each station at a lower price and get off at any of the four main stations (Unazuki - Kuronagi - Kanetsuri - Keyakidaira).
At each stop, there would be treasures of nature to welcome visitors.

One small note for you is that this train only operates from the middle of April to the end of November since it is difficult to visit this place in winter when it is cold and the snow falls heavily.
The peak season is in autumn when the forests along with the railway change to vibrant reddish-orange color. During that time, the train will take you to the best spots to view autumn foliage in Japan.

No matter when you come here, don't forget your camera. No one wants to miss the natural paintings that are bestowed only in Kurobe Gorge ^^

Test yourselves with extreme sports
If you like extreme sports, you will surely be fascinated by the "waterfall slide" here.
Endowed with deep gorges and surrounded by rivers, Kurobe has all the conditions that can allow you to experience extreme sports just enough to conquer yourselves and explore the amazing natural landscape
The fee for sliding, depending on the terrain, is about 10,000 yen/person, including full protective gear and detailed instructions from the assistant. I was not directly involved in this sport, but you can find more information and book the services through the website in advance.

Relax by unique hot springs
This is a famous Onsen town in Japan. Therefore, upon coming here, don't forget to enjoy the open-air hot springs or the footbath, at the same time enjoying the beautiful natural scenery around.
There are many stops for you to experience hot springs, such as: Kuronagi Onsen at Kuronagi Station, the Kanetsuri Kawara outdoor hot springs at Kanetsuri Station, Meiken Onsen at Keyakidaira Station, the last one. The cost for each spring bath depends on the location, ranging from 0 – 1.500 yen/ person.

Being a perfect location for both relaxing and adventurous trip, Kurobe Gorge not only offers beautiful natural landscapes and many types of sightseeing places but also trigger a variety of emotions for visitors.
This is really a very interesting place that can satisfy all the senses of people and eliminate all the stress. Don't miss anything if you have a chance to come to Toyama ^^
