Mori Building Digital Art Museum: teamLab Borderless - New concept that changed modern art
Have you ever wanted to get lost in the forests of "Pandora" from Avatar movie? Or wander around digital animals without any borders or fences like in a Zoo? Then you are obliged to experience this museum of digital art...
The Mori Building Digital Art Museum is 10,000 square meter space uses 520 computers and 470 projectors to create an experience that will stimulate all five senses. There are no rules or restrictions when it comes to total creativity, however, there are some tips I would like to share on enjoying this place to the full.
TeamLab Borderless in Odaiba was an absolutely mind-blowing experience for me, where you need to forget the world, get lost and find a new self inside of this wonderland. I will not be describing all the rooms we've seen there, because I believe that everyone should experience it by himself and interpret the concept of each exhibition according to his/her mindset.
I will rather instruct on how it is better to feel it, and what to expect.
It is best to purchase an online ticket and choose the timing of entrance
Because of COVID-19, the amount of people to enter at the same time has been limited (which is a great opportunity to observe all rooms with fewer people in it).
You can leave your stuff in the special locker, to not to carry them all the way, besides the strollers are not allowed, so make sure to get a carrier for a baby if you have one.
Another interesting detail is, if you have happened to come with high heels, you’d be given a rental flat shoes, so you could enjoy climbing soft or inclined surfaces easily and with comfort.
Make sure to visit one room several times, cause each of the colours and pictures change periodically.
If you enjoy painting, don't hesitate to draw a picture. It will be animated and start swimming on the wall. Another great entertainment not just for children but adults is the 3D town where you can use your creativity and change the directions of transportations according to your desire.
You will need to choose the direction of 3 different sections
- I'd recommend leaving a "Forest of Lamps" as the last one for a great ending of a fairy tale you will be in.
- Maybe you would like to choose "Athletic Forest" first, when you are still full of energy, and you’d like to waste it with fun and creativity.
It is an area where you and your kids (if you have any) will enjoy creative games, 3D puzzles, digital painting and wandering around bubbles and galaxies. And yes, leave your adulthood behind the entrance doors and bring your childhood back, here you would like to enjoy the fun to the full!
** A small tip for photography lovers like me, if you love being in the picture, then try dressing up in white clothes, so that diverse colours and pictures of the art were projecting on you.
"Butterfly house" is another section where you will fully enjoy the spectrum of creativity and beauty projected in 3D format.
The main tip for this area is to touch everything, step everywhere and follow your instincts. Because the flows of some artworks will resonate your movement and react accordingly, move slower or faster.
And if you love photographing, then make sure to bring a good quality camera or smartphone, cause it is not prohibited to take photos there. In opposite, the administration asks for a small favour, to post those photos in social media and put the hashtag.
As for "Forest of Lamps", the main recommendation is not to wear a skirt, since the room is all over surrounded by mirrors, whatever you are wearing will be obvious to others.
Apart from that, do not be concerned with anything, just enter it and enjoy the human-made miracle. Here, you realize that there are no borders or boundaries of human imagination. You will see how light responds to your movements and changes accordingly.
Finally, it worth mentioning that just couple stations away (Toyosu) there is another branch teamLab Borderless Planets, as well as in other exhibitions of teamLab in different countries' cities like Shanghai, Macao and so on.
My own experience made me realize how the new digital era made such an art advance when all your senses, your emotional level and imagination spectrum reach the point of no limitation.
