Oishi field of reeds and the endless refreshment
Colorful red and yellow leaves, cosmos flowers, and reeds are popular features when one thinks of Japanese autumn. But if I had to choose one of them, I would probably favor the endless field of reeds. This time, the place that I want to introduce to you is the Oishi reeds field, let us explore this location together!
Wakayama Prefecture has long been famous for its beautiful, fairy-like reed fields located on the windswept Oishi Plateau. Especially, when autumn comes, this place seems to wear a shimmering and poetical silver-grey coat.
Coming to Kansai, my friend and I spent some time visiting the famously beautiful reed field located on the Oishi plateau. A spacious site filled with the smell of reed grass was the first thing that I felt when I set foot in this place.
These pictures were taken late in the afternoon because my friend and I were busy visiting a few nearby spots, but they are still quite beautiful, right?
I took a taxi to the field for convenience. At the beginning of the path leading up to the grass hill, there is a map so that we can see the overall layout and understand the vastness of this place.
Right at the beginning, I could feel the cold breeze mixed with the sun's hot rays passing on my skin. If you are planning on traveling early in the winter like me, you should wear just enough warm clothes to be able to appreciate the poetic beauty of the place to the fullest and most comfortably.
Surely a good camera is an indispensable accessory when coming to this wonderful reed field. When the afternoon sun was shining down, the whole plateau seems to be covered with a shimmering and vast silver curtain. The spacious and windy atmosphere created an endless feeling of refreshment.
People living in the vicinity often choose this place as an ideal picnic spot. It is said that during sunset, the sky of the plateau will become bright red and if you stay here until evening, you can admire a dreamy and poetic starry sky.
It is a pity that I had to hastily return to Tokyo that day, otherwise, I would also like to take some time to fully admire the beauty of the reeds at different times of the day.
Walking around and taking some commemorative photos was what I did as soon as I reached the highest point here. My photoshoot spot was the cliff in the area where people often sit for picnics, every angle there was top-notch, and I could fully feel the wonderful atmosphere of the place there.
Not idly do I have such a special love for autumn in Japan like that. The whole place just seems to be changing by putting on a beautiful coat made of wonderful, withered-color leaves.
However, if you have the opportunities to admire this place during other seasons, it will be an equally interesting experience since this place is always gorgeous. For example, in the summer, the field of reeds will wear a marvelously green coat swaying gently in the cool breeze.
The Oishi reed field is one of the most ideal sightseeing spots if you are planning to come and visit the Kansai region. Don’t miss this place!
