Tea Time: Dandelion Chocolate, Factory & Cafe Kuramae
Fancy for some good chocolate? Check out Dandelion Chocolate, Factory & Cafe Kuramae with us!
Dandelion Chocolate is a chocolate shop that is originally from America and there are branches in both San Francisco and Las Vegas. Factory & Cafe Kuramae is the first shop in Japan. The other one in the Kanto region is in Omotesando. However, there is a slight difference between both shops. The Omotesando one is just the cafe and shop.
The Kuramae one has a (little chocolate) factory on the first floor where you can see the bean to bar process and the shop where you can buy the ready-made products. On the second floor are the cafe, workshop space, and factory so you can enjoy your chocolate drink or desserts while watching the process.
We were looking forward to going to the cafe because it was such a hot day (we went at the end of June) but when we got there because the pandemic was still going strong, dine-ins weren't allowed. So we had no choice but to make our purchases and eat them at the park opposite the shop.
As you can see the timing and how it is take-out only so remember to check before you go if you would like to dine in. There might also be changes in the opening and closing hours. According to Google, dine in is possible now.
At that point when we went, we had to look through the menu which was pasted at the entrance, decide what we wanted and then go in to order. Only one person is allowed inside the shop at a time so if you are going in a group (and if the rules have not changed), you would have to go in one by one to make your purchases.
The moment we stepped into the shop, we were greeted by the a-m-a-z-i-n-g smell of chocolate. Feel yourself be completely enveloped by this warm and comforting smell. The 2nd floor was closed off so there was only the 1st floor to look at.
Look at all the pretty stuff! There are chocolate bars that are all made at their very own factory here. All their chocolate bars are 70% and above so this is definitely going to be a luxurious healthier option. There are also some bars that have actually won awards so make sure you try them out. There are also a variety of cups and even cacao tea.
We originally planned to try their hot chocolates but because it was just too hot to drink hot chocolate outside so we decided to just try the sweets instead. My friend went for the S'more.
Did you know that the graham cracker inside is ALSO homemade? The surface is torched only after you make your order. We were given a fork to eat this with but, to be honest, it was quite difficult to eat it because the moment you stab the fork in, it either gets stuck or everything threatens to fall apart.
The marshmallow was REALLY sweet though. But the chocolate and graham cracker was so good. And the sea salt on the top was a nice accent.
I got the Dandelion Chocolate Chip Cookie. The amount of chocolate inside was very generous though and it wasn't too sweet. It was not too bad but nothing too fancy.
I actually bought the Chocolate Brownie too but I forgot to take a picture of it. It was so rich that I had to split it into a few rounds to finish it even though it wasn't as sweet. Totally worth it. It was so filling too. I would suggest you share it with a friend.
I highly recommend this place just for the experience. The next time I come again, I am going to try the hot chocolate. See you guys next time we find something yummy!
