Vietnamese Food At Ikebukuro: Lotus Palace
One of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants that is delicious and good right in the middle of Ikebukuro!
My friend came to visit and we decided to go to Lotus Palace for lunch. Lotus Palace is located on the 12th floor of Tobu Ikebukuro.
Tobu Ikebukuro is a department store next to Lumine Ikebukuro and both are directly accessible from the station come rain or shine. Ikebukuro is also a really convenient location with many lines such as JR Line, Tokyo Metro Lines, Tobu Tojyo Line and even the Seibu Ikebukuro Line.
If you come out from a particular Yurakucho Line exit, you can see Tobu Ikebukuro the moment you get out of the gates. I recommend taking the elevator because there are direct elevators up to the restaurant area. If you were to take the escalators up, somewhere in between, it gets kind of complicated.
The seats are well divided and there are plastic partitions as well. I love that they are totally non-smoking. We have to disinfect our hands at the entrance. We were then served this delicious tea that you will probably not be able to find in Japanese restaurants.
I thought this was really thoughtful: every person gets a mask case for you to store your mask so that it doesn't get dirty.
I ordered the Daily Obon Set, which I highly recommend. Just look at the portion and variety!
Even in this dish, there's so much variety. Inside the spring roll, there are a couple of types of vegetables, pork, prawn and others. It goes so well with the delicious nutty sauce. The salad behind with chicken has a very refreshing sauce that is perfect to start up your appetite.
This is the dish that changes daily. We went on a Saturday in early September 2021 and we got chicken. It's SO delicious. The soy sauce-based. The radish and carrots on the side were pickled so it was a nice compliment. It was a little hard to eat with chopsticks though, but the taste was definitely 100%.
I love how this wasn't plain rice. It made eating so much more fun and I could pretend it was healthier than normal white rice.
I love their chicken pho. There are other choices on the menu as well. I enjoyed their beef pho too. It's all very good. The soup looks simple but there is such rich depth and flavour in it. The chicken is tender and yummy. Very nice.
There were three types of dessert to choose from. I chose Che, which you can see from my set meal picture. It has coconut milk and sago in it. I love it. It was so delicious that I wanted to eat some more. This is the other one which my friend chose. The third choice is the mango pudding.
My other friend had this: Beef And Spring Roll Mazesoba. He said the spring rolls were really good. You have to mix the orangey liquid, which is the sauce into the noodles before eating. There was also a drink choice (not pictured here) which he picked - mango juice.
Overall, I give this place a 4.3/5. It is in a really convenient location and the staffs are pretty friendly and nice. If you want variety, the food is slightly on the pricy side but it is REALLY good so it's really worth it. And there are cheaper options as well. I've tried their other stuff and everything has been good so far so if you have the chance, please drop by and visit this restaurant.
